ABSTRACT

Objective To find out the distribution of TCM constitution on the patients with stroke in Beijing. Method The TCM Constitution Questionnaire was used to evaluate 489 patients with stroke in three hospitals in Beijing. Results The qi-deficiency constitution (140 patients, 28.63%), yin-deficiency constitution (95 patients, 19.43%), blood-stasis constitution(89 patients, 18.20%) and phlegm-heat constitution (73 patients, 14.93%) were the most common constitution, while qi-depression constitution (22 patients, 4.50%) and yang-deficiency constitution (20 patients, 4.09%) were the less common. The top three constitution in middle aged wereqi-deficiency (33 patients, 27.27%), phlegm-heat (23 patients, 19.01%) and blood stasis (22 patients, 18.18%). The top three constitution in the aged groupwere qi-deficiency (107 patients, 29.08%), yin-deficiency (76 patients, 20.65%) and blood-stasis (67 patients, 18.21%). Conclusions Stroke is closely related with imbalance of TCM constitution. The prevention and treatment of stroke patients with different ages should vary according to the constitutions.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of ginger-partitioned moxibustion in improving blood flow velocity in lower limbs of post-stroke patients. Methods Ninety post-stroke patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 45 in each group. The treatment group was intervened by ginger-partitioned moxibustion, while the control group was by conventional acupuncture. Before and after intervention, the blood flow velocity in lower limbs, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and modified Barthel Index (MBI) were evaluated. Results After 4-week treatment, the maximum blood flow velocity (Vmax) was significantly changed in the treatment group (P<0.05), and there was a significant difference in comparing the Vmax between the two groups after intervention (P<0.05); the NIHSS and MBI scores were significantly changed after intervention in the treatment group (P<0.05), and there was a significant difference in comparing MBI score between the two groups after intervention (P<0.05).Conclusions Ginger-partitioned moxibustion can accelerate the blood flow velocity in lower limbs of the post-stroke patients, improve blood circulation and the activities of life.

ABSTRACT

Objective To construct a prokaryotic expression plasmid for CPSIT_p7 gene from Chlamydophila psittaci ( Cps) 6BC strain and to evaluate immunogenicity of the recombinant protein His-CPSIT_p7 and detect its dynamic expression at mRNA and protein levels in HeLa cells during persistent Cps infection. Methods The fusion protein His-CPSIT_p7 was expressed in E.coli BL21 and purified by Ni-NTA affinity chromatography .BALB/c mice were immunized with the recombinant protein to prepare polyclonal antibody for evaluation of the immunogenicity of His-CPSIT_p7 by ELISA.Penicillin sodium was used to establish a model of Cps persistence infection .RT-PCR and Western blot assay were performed to de-tect the expression of CPSIT_p7 at mRNA and protein levels during Cps persistent infection .Results The fusion protein His-CPSIT_p7 was successfully expressed with the use of constructed recombinant expression plasmid pET30 a-CPSIT_p7 and purified .ELISA result showed that the specific antibody titer against CPSIT_p7 reached 1 ∶1 000 000 on the 40th days after immunization .The expression of CPSIT_p7 at mRNA and protein levels were increased in a time-dependent manner in Cps-infected HeLa cells .The peak of mRNA level was reached at the time point of 36 hours after infection , followed by a time-dependent decrease during Cps acute infection .However , the expression of CPSIT_p7 at mRNA and protein levels were not decreased until 60 hours after infection during Cps persistent infection .Conclusion His-CPSIT_p7 protein was suc-cessfully expressed in the prokaryotic expression system and purified , showing an advantage of good immuno-genicity.Highly expressed CPSIT_p7 at mRNA and protein levels were detected during Cps persistent infection.
